How can I get involved?

Make your voice heard on issues in your community. Send a letter to the editor about quality of life issues that you care about:

The Alabama Press Association website lists all of the newspapers in the state. You can search by city, or click on the appropriate place on the Alabama map shown to search by county.

Once you locate your newspaper, then look for the viewpoints, op-ed, or letters-to-the editor section. Letters generally should be sent to the Editorial Page Editors. But if there is none listed in a staff directory, send your letter to the Editor. Someone from the paper may call to verify your identity.

Eleanor's eTree, a YWCA web-based advocacy tool and newsletter geared toward women, also has set up a media center to help people write letters to the editor (as well as to Congress). The site also provides tips for effective letter writing.

Here are some e-mail addresses to send letters to daily papers in the region. Be sure to put "letters to editor" in subject header.
