Board votes to support Riley's tax reform package
The Region 2020 board of directors voted unanimously at its annual meeting June 19 to support Gov. Bob Riley’s $1.2 billion tax accountability and reform package.
The 82-member board endorsed the proposed reform package because it addresses many of the goals and strategies developed and identified by more than 5,000 citizens during the visioning process of Region 2020, particularly in the area of education reform, according to executive director Ann Florie.
The meeting was held at Region 2020’s new home – The Center For Regional Planning and Design, located at 1731 First Ave. N., in downtown Birmingham.
Region 2020 also announced at the meeting that it will help initiate a benchmarking process in 2004 to ensure that regional efforts are moving the community forward.
